Do I qualify for medical marijuana?
Under Kentucky law (KRS 218B.010), the following six conditions qualify patients for medical marijuana certification.

Our physicians can diagnose and certify chronic pain, muscle spasms, spasticity, chronic nausea, cyclic vomiting syndrome, and post-traumatic stress disorder. We do not diagnose cancer, epilepsy, or multiple sclerosis. Please see an appropriate specialist for diagnosis and treatment before we certify you.

1. Any type or form of cancer regardless of stage
Medical marijuana can help cancer patients manage symptoms such as chronic pain, nausea, and loss of appetite, often associated with cancer treatments like chemotherapy. It can also reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and enhance overall quality of life, making it a valuable tool in supportive cancer care.
2. Chronic, severe, intractable, or debilitating pain
Medical marijuana can provide significant relief for individuals suffering from chronic, severe, intractable, or debilitating pain by reducing pain intensity and inflammation. It offers an alternative to traditional pain management methods, helping patients improve their quality of life when other treatments may not be effective.

*In the state of Kentucky, chronic pain is generally defined as pain that lasts longer than three months or beyond the normal healing time for an injury or illness.
3. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Medical marijuana can help PTSD patients by reducing anxiety, improving sleep, and minimizing nightmares, providing relief from the emotional and physical symptoms of the disorder. It can also help regulate mood and decrease the intensity of flashbacks, enhancing overall quality of life for those affected by PTSD.
4. Epilepsy or any other intractable seizure disorder
Medical marijuana can help reduce the frequency and severity of seizures in patients with epilepsy and other intractable seizure disorders. It has shown significant benefits for those who do not respond to traditional treatments, offering improved seizure control and better quality of life.
5. Multiple sclerosis, muscle spasms, or spasticity
Medical marijuana can help patients with Multiple Sclerosis, muscle spasms, or spasticity by reducing muscle spasms, easing stiffness, and relieving associated pain. It offers a natural option for improving mobility and quality of life when traditional treatments are ineffective.
6. Chronic nausea or cyclical vomiting syndrome
For patients with chronic nausea or cyclical vomiting syndrome, medical marijuana can provide relief by reducing nausea, controlling vomiting episodes, and improving appetite. It helps stabilize symptoms, offering a natural alternative when traditional treatments are insufficient.
